ScholarWorks Instructions

ScholarWorks is a collection of services designed to showcase the scholarship created by Boise State’s faculty, students, and researchers. Content included in ScholarWorks is openly available and can be accessed by anyone with an internet connection. Inclusion of Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations helps demonstrate the incredible contributions by Boise State students and assists in promoting research opportunities for future students.

THE SCHOLARWORKS SUBMISSION PROCESS

  1. Go to the Boise State University Theses and Dissertations page: http://scholarworks.boisestate.edu/td/
  2. Select the Submit Research link on the left side of the page.
  3. Login to your ScholarWorks account using your my.BoiseState user name and password.
  4. Read the Submission Certifications, check the box to agree to the given terms, print a copy of the page for your records, and select Continue.
  5. Fill out the required fields (see below for guides).
  6. Upload your file and click Submit.

Use these guides to fill in the online submission form

  • Title: Enter the title of your thesis or dissertation exactly as it appears on the title page of your document, using Title Case.
  • Author:  Enter your name exactly as it appears on your document.  Note that this email address will be used to contact you with information about your document.
  • Publication Date: Enter the month and year of your graduation, leaving the Season blank.
  • Date of Final Oral Examination (Defense): Enter the date you defended your thesis or dissertation.
  • Degree Title: Enter your specific degree title as it appears on the title page of your thesis or dissertation.
  • Department: Select the appropriate department from the drop down list.
  • Major Advisor: Enter the name of the Chair of your Supervisory Committee, followed by their degree title.
  • Additional Advisors: Enter additional committee members in the following fields, or leave the field blank.
  • Keywords: The words you enter will help visitors find accurate results when they search ScholarWorks.  Up to 6 keywords or phrases, separated by commas, can be added.  These keywords should
    be terms not already used in the title or abstract.
  • Subject Categories: Select the discipline which best describe your document. The selection list follows the Three-Tiered Taxonomy of Academic Disciplines available here.
  • Abstract: Enter the abstract from your document. Often abstracts will be the only way readers can determine if they want to view your work.  As a result it is important to provide a well written and descriptive abstract for your project.
  • Comments: Additional comments or information about the document can be added in this field.  Please be aware that anything included in this field will be subject to Graduate College and ScholarWorks approval, and if accepted, will display on the public record for your document.
  • Streaming Media: If your thesis or dissertation includes streaming media, such as a video or audio file, enter the link to the file and select the format of the file from the drop-down list.  You may also upload these and other related files to ScholarWorks by selecting the Additional Files option.
  • Upload Full Text:  Select the “Upload file from your computer” option and navigate to your thesis or dissertation.
  • Additional Files:  Select this option if you have additional files you would like to make publicly available. Please note, access to these additional files can not be limited in any way.  If you have a large number of files you would like to include, please contact ScholarWorks email (ScholarWorks or 208-426-2581) for assistance.
  • Submit:  Once you have submitted the required information, you will be able to see the information you entered.  At this point you can either “Revise submission” or “Make another submission”.  If you are satisfied with your information, simply log out of ScholarWorks through the My Account link.

THE REVISE SUBMISSION PROCESS

You will receive notification via email when the reviewed copy of your thesis or dissertation is ready for you to view through ScholarWorks.  You will then make any necessary edits before submitting the final version back to the Graduate College.

  1. Go to the Boise State University Theses and Dissertations page: http://scholarworks.boisestate.edu/td/
  2. Select My Account at the top of the page
  3. Login to your ScholarWorks account
  4. Click the linked title of your thesis/dissertation
  5. Select the Revise thesis/dissertation link on the top left side of the page.
  6. Scroll down to Upload Full Text and upload your revised document.  Include a Reason For Update, if applicable.  You may also make changes to the metadata.  Then click Submit.

FINAL APPROVAL

Once your final thesis or dissertation has been submitted to ScholarWorks, it will be reviewed by staff from both the Library and Graduate College.  Once final approval has been given, it will be made publicly available on the ScholarWorks site as per your Access Agreement. Embargoed documents will not be available for download until the embargo period has passed.
